They can mean so much to so many people, and there are so many to choose from. Recently, I had the privilege of choosing music for my Dad\u2019s funeral. One of the songs I went with was\u00a0Forev<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/9UwC05XWXrw\">e<\/a>r Young\u00a0by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/31ZJmGn\">Meatloaf<\/a>. He was a big Meatloaf fan and the song&#8217;s lyrics seemed to have a great resonation with his life and the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Meat Loaf: Forever Young (Live)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9UwC05XWXrw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The song\u2019s chorus centre\u2019s around the idea of staying&nbsp;<em>forever young<\/em>.&nbsp;That is something which really resonated with my Dad\u2019s life, and something which I think also speaks to all of us regarding our wellbeing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Life pressures us to conform. To \u2018grow up\u2019. Growing up itself is not a bad thing, if it means maturing. But often the growing up which life puts on us is to conform to social norms of what it means to be a successful mature adult in a materialistic world: Bigger house; bigger car; pension plans, etc. The problem with this, is it often means us becoming more like some generic model of a successful person and buying in to a stressful model of materialistic possession rather than an authentic mature version of ourselves.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This song offers us a remedy through a different philosophy. Maintaining the curious expectation of youth as an approach to life. It encourages us to:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Always do for others and let others do for you<\/em>&nbsp;\u2013 helping others is great, but how often do we allow ourselves to be vulnerable enough to allow others to help us?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>See the lights surrounding you<\/em>&nbsp;\u2013 recognising the things around us which brighten our route and guide us.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Be courageous, stand upright and strong<\/em>&nbsp;\u2013 not settling for a sold second hand vision of the good life, but working it out with personal authenticity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Working these things out through intention and practice provides us with a good basis for wellbeing as it can help us to;&nbsp;<em>have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, when I thought about this song, it made me think of my Dad and what life could be at its best.
